While talking to Fr. Malcolm French, only yesterday, I was saddened to learn of Bob's death. I met Bob while attending to Fr. Adam Sebastian who was under my guardianship. Bob was one of his table mates at Santa Maria. When Fr. Adam died I promised Bob I'd continue to visit him. I did this as much as I could - given that I often have to travel. Rarely with anyone else have I experience an almost instant bonding that I felt with Bob. Not only did we have many common interests - nature, history, art - but I was also drawn to his kind, patient, gentlemanly character. He was also a man of faith and I had the privilege to pray with him a few times when his health was declining. I would have liked to have known Bob when he was younger, but part of his appeal to me was his age. He stood as a good example of what I hope to be like when I reach his age. I did not know Bob very long, but I am thankful for the little time I knew him. Verna, thank you for your obvious love and faithfulness to Bob.

Bob was a rare man in his day and an even rarer man in this one. Verna thank you for putting up with us neighbourhood kids always in your space! Fond memories of Mickey Mouse sundaes, our 'offices' in your basement, the button making machine, making clay pots, drinking your prune juice (sorry), and endless hours in the backyard on top of the shed, forcing everyone to watch our 'plays'. Bob was a wonderful, loving and patient man who had a positive impact on each of us 'kids' lives and his presence on this earth made it a better place. Sending lots of love to you Verna, thank you for all the patience, time and love you and Bob gave to us 'neighbourhood kids'.
