Dear Chapman family
I attended Grant Road school with Karen for grades seven and eight, graduating with her in 1968 (We had our silhouettes decorating the gymnasium). My family moved, as it has done continually, at the end of that school term. Karen and I didn’t stay in contact but she crossed my mind today so I went ‘googling’ and found this obituary. I am so sorry for your loss.
In those years, we were coming of age with a big gang of friends and they were seemingly happy, carefree times. We had the Canada Centenial fitness challenges, we saw To Sir With Love countless times, walked the hot pavement in summer in our long, striped t-shirts and blue jeans eating sunflower seeds (Spitz) and spitting the shells as we went. Karen helped me with my makeup when I played Cleopatra in a school play, and I remember playing in your backyard in a tent trying to ’levitate’ each other by some magical means of thought and energy concentration. That day, Mr. Chapman told me he would give me a quarter (you could buy a massive bag of Spitz for a quarter) if I stepped on a cricket with my bare feet and I totally fell for it receiving a ‘quarter’ of a leaf for my efforts (might have been a favourite dupe of his). We had Trudeau-mania and the Monkees (Peter Tork grew up nearby!), we had ‘Blue Velvet’ and Karen loved that song.
So many great memories. I remember Karen as beautiful, clever and full of mischief. I am sorry to hear that she suffered with such a debilitating disease. May she rest in peace.

Karen kept her sense of style, and humour, through the challenges of MS. She was a very cool lady, loving wife and proud mom.
We know she leaves a legacy of love. Our condolences.

We are so sorry to hear about Karen's passing.
We have often thought of all of you and wondered how Karen was doing. We always enjoyed visiting with you when we lived in the neighborhood. Brian, you had done such an amazing job renovating that house so that all of Karen's needs were met to live there as long as she could. We all used to sit and visit in your master bedroom with that beautiful fireplace and doors looking out on to the deck as those two huge great Danes wandered around and our pug ran in between their legs. We had great visits and will always remember them.
Brian, you have always been so strong and been able to cope with each step as Karen's illness progressed. We hope Casey and Colter are able to do the same.
Our hearts go out to all of you.
Love Lizanne, Bob, Michael and Cameron
