Obituary of Alexander Mounfield White
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Alex White on March 15, 2019 at the age of 95. Alex was born in Craik, SK in 1923 and called Saskatchewan home his entire life. Alex was predeceased by his wife Audrey (Allen), his parents Alex and Minnie, and his sister Rhoda (Feader). He is survived by his children Richard (Maureen), William (Judy), and Catherine, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one niece. Alex spent his youth in Craik before leaving for radio school in Toronto following high school. He used this training in Canada’s Merchant Navy during WW II serving as a Radio Officer on the Green Gables Park in both the Atlantic and Pacific theatres. In his later years he told many stories from funny to instructive to sad of his time at sea and the people with whom he served. Following the war Alex began a long career in radio and television at CKCK radio in Regina. With the advent of television he was hired as the first employee of CKCK TV. This led to a career of over 40 years as Technical Director at the station. Alex was a member of the Central Lions Club for many years and provided service through his working years and well beyond retirement to assist the blind with curling, bowling, and cribbage and using his technical expertise in providing sound systems for various activities and the Lions Little League baseball park, and gave of his time to ring the bell for the Salvation Army Christmas kettles on miserable winter days. He loved both playing and watching sports and was a long time season ticket holder and always a loyal fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. His pride in all things Saskatchewan carried over to his vacations; for over sixty consecutive years he visited and loved Waskesiu. Nothing would please him more than spending a day there ending with another perfect sunset to which he would comment, with a smile, “another lousy day at Waskesiu!” Alex will always be remembered for his continuous kindness and patience, and his constant desire to serve others. He loved his family and did everything in his power to make our lives better. He loved his fellow man and to his last day strived to serve those around him. At Alex’s request he will be remembered at a private family service. Thank you to the staff at the Victoria Park Personal Care home for the care afforded Alex in his time there. Donation in his memory can be made to the Canadian war veterans’ charity of your choice.
