Obituary of William Makohoniuk
William, age 92, of Regina, SK, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at the Regina General Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Wasylina; wife Helen; son Gary; and brothers and sisters, Mike, Joe, Annie, Emily, Mary, Sylvia, infant sisters Jennie and Mary. William is survived by his son Les (Irma) of Lincoln, Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews, Adrian (Victoria) Makohoniuk of Pelly, SK, Elaine Makohoniuk of Benito, MB, Michael (Norma) Hataley of Moose Jaw, SK, Darrell Whidden of Nanaimo, BC; brothers, Orest and Lawrence Hataley of Swan River, MB; extended family, Sheldon (Tammy) Wiwchar of Canora, SK, Dwayne (Brenda) Iwasuik of Saskatoon, SK, Cheryl (Bruce) Iwasuik of Saskatoon, SK, and Ron (Daniella) Vichar of Etobicoke, ON; as well as close family friends, Grad family, Dolan family, Jelenski family and Quest family. William was born in Arran, SK. He became a teacher and started his teaching career in the Canora area and later moved to Regina where he taught at Central Collegiate from 1962 to 1985. After retirement, Bill played in the band the Prairie Rhythmaire with group members Bill (Margaret) Yano, Merve (Diana) Koshman, and Walter (Angie) Nowosiadly. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dove House Senior Home staff and the Regina General Hospital Physicians, Nurses and staff. Prayers will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at St. Basil’s Catholic Church, 1757 Toronto Street, Regina, SK on Friday, August 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Vladimir Simunovic officiating. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park immediately following. Those wishing to attend the Funeral Service at St Basil’s, interment at Riverside Park and reception at Speers Family Center, please R.S.V.P. to Speers Funeral Chapel (306-522-3232) by July 26, 2019 and we will all meet at Speers Funeral Chapel on Friday, August 2, 2019 10:00 a.m. Flowers most gratefully declined.
