CHOWANIEC, Christopher Arvid
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Chris passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at the age of 72. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Rita Chowaniec. Chris is survived by his loving wife Diana; daughter Leeann (Darren) Shauf; grandchildren Mackenzie, Brooklyn and Taylor; numerous in-laws; as well as nieces and nephews. Name: Christopher Arvid Chowaniec was born June 30, 1947 in Winnipeg MB.
Chris spent his early years living on the farm on Marieval SK, then moved to Regina where he attended Sacred Heart Elementary School, he graduated Campion Collegiate - class of 1965 and attended University of Regina, graduating with a teaching degree - class of 1967. He delivered the Leader Post as a boy and worked at Eaton’s to put himself through University.
He married his wife Diana Schroeder on August 4, 1973 at Marieval SK.
His first teaching job was in Regina, he also taught at Springside, Brock, Estevan SK as well as Marieval Residential School. After teaching, he had various other jobs, but his most memorable job after teaching was manager at CMS.
Chris was involved with many sports teams, both participating and coaching - ball, soccer, hockey, and ringette. Later in life the Knights of Columbus became his passion, being a 4th degree honour guard. He was also honoured to be the president of the ALS Society of Saskatchewan. ALS Society was near and dear to his heart once he was diagnosed with Kennedy’s Disease.
Chris took much pleasure in babysitting his grandchildren, attending their events, woodworking, and ceramics.
Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, only a private memorial service will be held. On Tuesday, April 21, 2020 you may view the live stream of the Memorial Service (1:00 p.m.) and the Graveside Service (approx. 2:15 p.m.) at www.speersfuneralchapel.com . Family and friends are welcome to join the procession to the grave by meeting in their vehicles at the gate of at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, 815 Assiniboine Avenue E., Regina SK at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service will begin at approximately 2:15 p.m. Guests are asked to remain in their vehicles in order to comply with gathering size restrictions. These restrictions require that no one should leave their vehicle unless directed to do so by Speers personnel. The graveside service will be broadcast, to vehicles in the cemetery, on radio at FM 99.3.
