Obituary of Eugene Ryan

RYAN, Patrick Eugene (Gene)

Patrick Eugene (Gene) Ryan late of Regina, SK, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 25, 2020 at the age of 67 years. He was predeceased by his parents Allan and Mary; sisters Jesse and Lorraine; brothers John, Willard and Sandy; brothers-in-law Graham, Alec and Phil; and sister-in-law Heather Ryan. Eugene is survived by his spouse Gloria; daughters Amy (Cory) their children Ben and Duncan, and Shayna (Josh) and their children Isabel, Olivia and Iver; son Shawn (Ashley); sisters Winifred and Tina; sisters-in-law Valerie, Isabel and Mavis; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who he loved very much. He has a special bond with Courtney, Brittany, Anita and Travis Ryan. Eugene was born October 15, 1952 in Port Hawksbury, Nova Scotia, the 7th of 8 children. He moved out to Saskatchewan in the early 1970s and there he met the love of his life, Gloria Paulson. They were married in 1978 on a stormy night and moved to Regina, where they started their family in 1983. Eugene was a proud member of the Ironworkers Local 771 for over 40 years. He was a skilled connector who mentored many members overs the years. After years of camping at East Blue Lake, Eugene and Gloria bought a small cabin in 1993 with plans to build a bigger place to retire at years later. The cabin was a special place for all the family to come and spend time together, swimming, fishing, visiting and making memories. In 2007 the baby cabin was knocked down and construction of the new cabin began. Many friends and family helped build the new cabin, Courtney Ryan helped so much he jokingly began being referred to as their first born by his cousins. Eugene has a great wit and was always happy to lend a hand if someone needed help. He was a stoic man but could be moved by a kind word or action and always championed the underdog. Gene was loved and respected by many people but no one more than his wife and he felt the same. They were the best of friends and a wonderful example of marriage to the people around them. As per Gene's wishes there won't be a funeral.
