Dear Hildegard and family,
I remember with fondness the days when Hans and I were members of the U of R Group for Refugees. That first group included Aluma Ponziano with whom I have remained in touch and have become a close friend. I am sorry for your loss, because I know how devoted Hans was to you and your daughter.
Greetings from Penthes Rubrecht

My deepest heartfelt condolences to the Schlichtmann family. Hans was an instructor of mine in the 1970s, and he reaffirmed my interest in cartography which helped with my career. I had the pleasure of meeting him at several CCA conferences.

I was a colleague of Hans for many years. Although I was in a different department, I am also a geographer. I got to know Hans better when we took French conversation classes together. In later years, I got to know his wife through University of Regina Women. I am deeply sorry to hear of his passing and I extend my deepest condolences, on behalf of my husband Paul Gingrich as well as myself, to Ingeborg and to all his family.

To Dr. Schlichtmann's family, can only imagine your feeling of loss but my sadness is profound. I first knew him as my professor -- the kind you feared but respected deeply. I then knew him as a trusted mentor through my graduate work. I then knew him as a colleague when I began teaching at the U of R. I lastly hope we were friends. I spoke with him only months ago as we sought his wise counsel on a project in the department. As it has always been, his assistance was freely given and his advice, of inestimable value. The twinkle was still in his eye as he cracked yet another subtle joke and then looked shyly and slyly to see if you'd caught his jest. That was Herr Schlichtmann.
Another esteemed professor once told me the best advice for being a lecturer was to pick your three favourite professors and emulate them. For my career as an instructor, Dr. Hans Schlichtmann has always been at least two of those three. Deepest condolences to all whom he touched.
