Obituary of Sr. Agnes Fillion

FILLION, Sr. Agnes

Sister Agnes (Aggie) Fillion passed away peacefully at Santa Maria Home, Regina, SK on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at the age of 100 years. She was born at Viscount, Saskatchewan on September 10, 1919 to David and Agnes (nee Bedard) Fillion, the twelfth of seven sisters and six brothers.  All have predeceased her.  Aggie is survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and her sisters in the Congregation of Our Lady of the Missions.  Aggie entered religious life at Sacred Heart College, Regina in July 1937.  After Sacred Heart College, Aggie's earlier years were spent in several convents and schools in Manitoba, helping in a variety of ways with cooking, caring for boarders, attending Brandon Teachers College, assisting and teaching in the schools.  In 1969 Aggie moved to Regina and stayed.  She began the highlight and most satisfying part of her life, working with special needs children at Sacred Heart College and later, with them and others, as adults at Garrity Home for almost 30 years.  She was wonderfully gifted for that ministry.  Aggie had a heart full of love, compassion, generosity, mischief and fun which sparked joy in everyone around her.  In 1999 Aggie moved to the sisters residence at Santa Maria where she was much appreciated as she visited and brightened the lives of the residents in care.  Last year, she herself became a resident in care.  The Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions are most grateful for the gracious and loving care she received from the staff. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Cathedral, 3125 – 13th Avenue, Regina, SK on Tuesday, July 7 at 1:00 p.m. To view the livestream of the service, please click on the link to Speers TV at the top of Sr. Aggie’s Tribute Page.
