Facts about Funerals and COVID-19

As of May 12, 2020 at 1:30 p.m.

For over 110 years Speers has been a trusted name in this community and today we stand by ready to help. We remain open and will respond with professionalism, care and compassion in our mission to help families as they grieve and celebrate life. If you have any questions or need assistance, call us at (306)522-3232.

Speers prioritizes the health and well-being of our staff and guests. We understand this is a fluid situation and are monitoring and evaluating developments related to the coronavirus (COVID-19).

We still believe that gathering and supporting one another at a time of loss is important. On March 18, 2020 the Province of Saskatchewan declared a state of emergency and outlined additional measures taken to protect Saskatchewan residents. We will abide by the Province of Saskatchewan’s restrictions on indoor and outdoor gatherings of 10 or more guests by offering families the option to have private, by invitation only services. This will still allow the families we serve to gather and support one another, while keeping the health and safety of guests a priority. To allow the community to participate in the ceremony, we are offering complimentary video streaming of services in our chapel or at a cemetery, until further notice. We also encourage the community to reach out to each family via their Tribute Page on speersfuneralchapel.com.

We encourage you to follow the PHAC recommendations to take the usual steps to help prevent the spread of illness:

-      Wash your hands frequently with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol based hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol

-       Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands

-       Cover your coughs and sneezes with your arm or inner elbow

-       Avoid close contact with sick people

-       Stay home when you are sick or not feeling well

In addition to communicating best health and safety practices to our staff and guests, Speers has implemented additional precautions throughout our facilities:

-       Staff have been reminded of and encouraged to use good hand hygiene and cough etiquette habits

-       Heightened daily disinfection practices for high-touch surfaces

-       Asking all guests entering our facilities if they have a cough, are experiencing shortness of breath, have a fever or have travelled outside of Canada in the past 14 days

-       Keeping record of all guests in our facilities and their contact information if further follow up is required by Public Health

-       Arrangements that can be made online, over telephone or video chat with a Licensed Funeral Director

-       Temporary use of disposable drinking glasses and bottled water for guests
