Florence Mayer

Obituary of Florence Irene May Mayer

Florence Mayer passed away suddenly but peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, August 13, 2020 at the Regina General Hospital at the age of 100.  She was predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph (1971) and will be remembered as a loving mother to Leonard and a cherished grandmother to Jesse and Kristen (Ray). Florence was also predeceased by her brothers George, Charles, and John Wilson and sisters Margaret Desjardins and Mary Clow. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends. Florence was born to George and Mary Wilson, on February 14, 1920 in Regina, SK.  She grew up on a farm near Penzance, SK where she attended her early education.  Florence furthered her formal education at the Normal School in Regina where she earned a Certificate of Teaching.  She was married to Joseph Mayer in 1943 and they began farming together in the Kendal area where she remained until buying a house with her sister Mary in Regina in 1988.  Over the next 30 years, Florence primarily enjoyed living a simple life while spending time with family and friends. She and Mary both enjoyed the companionship of being together as they looked after their home and garden. After Mary's passing in 2018, Florence spent the rest of her days on the family farm near Kendal, now operated by their son Leonard.  Florence will be laid to rest beside her husband Joseph at the St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Cemetery following a private family service at Speers Funeral Chapel in Regina. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan, 200-4545 Parliament Ave, Regina, SK S4W 0G3, or online at www.cancerfoundationsask.ca, would be greatly appreciated.
