Obituary of Raymond Henry Vermette
Raymond “Ray” Henry Vermette peacefully passed away, at the age of 91 on October 30, 2020 while surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan in 1929. Ray married Josephine (Richter) in 1952. Together they had six children, Cheryl (Jim) Ferguson, Blaine, Michelle Tom, Colleen Winhold, Darrell (Janet) and Michel (Chelsey); seven grandchildren, Ryan and Chad (Daniella) Winhold, Amanda (Steven) Stahl, Katherine (James) Shiels, Aja Tom, Koen and Jaxx Vermette; and three great-grandchildren, Chantelle, Arianna and Owen. He is also survived by his younger brothers Henry and Wayne (Ontario). Dad was predeceased by his parents, Henri and Anne; wife, Josephine; brothers, Norman and Verne; grandson, James Mise; and son-in-law, John Tom. Today we say goodbye to not only to our beloved Father, but also a son, brother, husband and friend. He loved Regina and made it his home, where he attended Imperial Elementary School and Central and Balfour High Schools. Dad was in the army from 1949-1952 where he worked as a surveyor and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. It was his father who introduced him to Mom and they were married 54 years. Dad retired from the Co-op Refinery after 39 years. He was hard working and devoted to his family. Dad was a natural athlete and avid sports fan, especially of the Montreal Canadiens and Riders. He played baseball as a youth, curled for many years and played hockey well into his 50's. One of dad's passions was golf and in 1981 he got a hole-in-one at Tor Hill. We will always remember Dad for his kindness, big heart, generosity and compassion. His bright smile and compliments brightened his loved ones’ days. Dad will be greatly missed by those who love him and we take comfort in the memories he left behind. His legacy will live on in his children. May God bless you Dad and may you rest in eternal peace. A special thanks to the staff at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre Veteran's Unit the Regina General Hospital 5E Unit. A Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Peace on Thursday, November 5, 2020 followed by the Interment at Regina Memorial Gardens.
