Obituary of Wilfred Fairles Benson

The family of Wilfred is saddened to announce his passing on Saturday, November 7, 2020, at the age of 95 years. Wilf is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Dorothy (nee Kopp); daughter Sherry Hnidan (Bruce); son Douglas Benson; four grandchildren, Taryn Hnidan (Jesse), Travis Hnidan (Marianne), Stephen Benson (Nadine), and Michael Benson; great-granddaughter Faye Hnidan; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Lucy (nee Nogier) and William Benson; his brothers Louis and Bill Benson; and his sister Lucille McCowan. Wilf was born and raised in Humboldt, SK. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces at the age of 19 and served several years overseas in Britain and Northwest Europe. Wilf was employed with the Saskatchewan Power Corporation for 37 years, forming many strong friendships in that time. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, curling, golfing, and travelling with family and friends. Gardening was a passion of his; his tomatoes were legendary. Wilf was handy with any tool and quick to lend a hand when needed. Special thanks to the Palliative Care team at the Pasqua Hospital who supported Wilf and his family during his final journey. Special thanks to Dr. J. S. McMillan and staff for their years of dedicated care. In observance of Covid-19 restrictions, there will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
