I can't believe your gone Dougie we were just there we just went to Houston's for supper together and you got your very filling mac and cheese and I was being a brat pestering you just bcuz I could and I wanted to see you smile and give me that silly look of disapproval I don't want to believe this we were just sending ridiculous filtered pictures on snap chat and I regret not screen shotting every picture you sent.... we never should have left you after supper I should have at least stayed with you for a while like we did before maybe you would still be here with us and we all wouldn't be missing you eternally .... there are no words to describe how much you mean to me and Tim or how much we love you Dougie your our brother our best friend our sanity you have been my strength when I've been at my weakest you are a huge part of our entire world and losing you is a giant black whole that will never heal this world and life will never be the same without you in it ... I have so many memories and words but none of them seem to be enough or even come close to saying how much you mean to me to us to our family when people say words are never enough this is truly what they mean .... I could tell a million different memories about our times with you but it's not even close to describing who you are or what you mean to us and our family .... really only three words seem to say it the best and the clearest and that's "We Love You" i just want to call or message your phone and you answer with yes i took my meds or yes ive eaten and my sugars are 6.6 again its been 9 days now and i still catch myself going to text or call u to remind you to take your meds and eat im going to miss stopping by to check on you and u asking me to help you find your one stretcher earring bcuz you lost it again and i always seems to find your lost pieces haha or stopping by bcuz we came into regina just to check on you and take you out for supper so we know youve eaten and ordering way more food then necessary so we can take your home with a few meals for the next few days.... i just wish that this wasnt real it sure doesnt feel real yet .... We Love You Dougie forever and a sugar free pudding cup <3 and we will make sure your nieces and nephews Jarred, Xander, Damon, Anastazia, Aurorihanna and Lorenzo always remember you . Please take care of our Babygirl Aurora for us until we get there . I still dont wanna believe your really gone but tomorrow its going to be extremely real ... we will be meeting Dad at your house and it will be the first time we will be there without you this bloody sucks i just want to show up there and see you standing in your window with your what the @#$% ? look bcuz you didnt know we were in the city and telling you get your bag your kidnapped for the evening taking you for supper and after food driving to 3 different stores just to find your orange mandarin and green Lime energy drinks so you have some in the fridge. You are and will always be my bestfriend Dougie i hope where ever you are you are happy healthy and having the time of your life over indulging on every sugary junk food and treat you can imagine rest in paradise My Dougie we are loving you always and dont worry about Dad to much we are here for him and just because i cant check on you anymore doesnt mean i cant check on dad now

Oh Rod my heart is breaking! I just loved having “Little Douglas” grow up with my kids! He was such a sweet precocious wee man! You couldn’t help but love him. He was a very good friend!
Even after he grew up and moved away he would come and visit me to share his exciting news and not so happy times; and I always got a big hug!
Rod you have lost so much and far too soon! My dear friend I feel so sad for you. God bless you.

I am very sad to hear of Doug's passing. We were far from lifelong friends, but he was always the same little guy to me that I knew in early childhood. Playing games, pretending we were giant robots walking to school and back... I remember many good times with him, and some not so good but I always knew that his private battles had so much to do with that, as did my own. We struggled to see eye to eye when we ran into each other as young adults as well, living very different lives and seeking different things out of life, but I always hoped for the best for Doug and thought that he would find a good way and peaceful happiness in the end. I am so sorry for your loss Rod.
Rest in peace Doug.

Rod, I am so sorry to hear about Dougie’s passing it just breaks my heart. The only consolation is knowing that Sheila and he are together again. Gone far too soon, I will always remember him for his kindness and big heart. Dougie, may your spirit find peace, you will be missed.
In the distance day was dawning,
Comes to me the early morning,
Something tells me that I'm going home
The brand new sun shining bright
From the darkness fields of light
Something tells me that I'm going home
Going home
When the summer's coming in
And the moonlight on the river
Shows me where I've been
Soft the rain is gently falling
Lightly cross the city morning
I get the feeling that I'm going home
Across the moorlands, past the mountains,
O'er the rivers, beside the new streams,
Something tells me that I'm going home

Douglas was the type of person who left an impression everywhere he went. He turned heads, inspired laughter and brought smiles to light in the darkest places. He left an imprint on my heart with Katriona, a joy that we shared even when there was so much distance between us.
Our deepest condolences Rod, our thoughts and prayers are with you now and always.
