Derrick was predeceased by his mother Linda Desnomie; brother John Desnomie; and son Braden. He is survived by father Henry Lerat; siblings, Alynda Desnomie, Crystal El-Mouse, Lynn Bear, Crystal George, and Scott Lerat; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Derrick is also survived by his daughter Chanelle Akepew (Clair Akapew). Due to the COVID-19 gathering restrictions, a private wake and funeral service will be held.
