Dear Gloria I read with great sadness the recent news about Garth's passing and hope that you and the family are managing okay. Your loss is enormous. I have many fond memories of working with Garth at the University of Regina during 1978-80, and of times spent socially with you both. I remember Garth as an exceptionally talented university professor who was much appreciated by his students. He was also a great friend who, I'm sure, will be greatly missed by all of his colleagues at the University of Regina. He was taken far, far too soon. Sincerely, Dennis Caine (Georgetown, TX)

My heartfelt condolences to Garth's family and friends. I was deeply saddened by what seemed to be a too-soon end for someone so valuable to the world. I remember Garth as a warm and wise friend of my dad's and in later years, a friend of mine. Garth and I enjoyed many discussions about his work with UNESCO and our shared interest in seeing education transformed to align with those goals. With all of this, and devotion to his mom, Gloria, children and grandchildren, Garth still made time to help my family through the difficult times around my dad's passing in 2017 and so generously reached out to U of R to lower the flag to honour my dad, for which I will gladly seek for Garth.

Dear Gloria and Family,
We were so saddened to learn of the news of Garth's passing. I had the privilege of having Garth as a professor, later a colleague, a mentor but above all, a great friend. We enjoyed fun times at O.C.R.E., co-teaching classes, sharing stories and laughs around a campfire and many miles of paddling and portaging on the Churchill River. He will be remembered as a teacher educator who challenged students to trust their instincts and make their own decisions. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Sincerely,
The Forsberg Family

Dear Gloria and family,
I was deeply saddened to learn of Garth's passing. I feel so blessed to have worked with him from the time I joined the University of Regina in 2004 until Garth's retirement. His passion for teaching and learning made a difference to many students, faculty and staff that he worked alongside. I appreciated how welcome he made me feel, and the many stories he shared with me of his time at the University of Alberta, a place near and dear to both of us. I hope you find comfort in knowing that Garth's legacy will live on in classrooms around the country. He was truly special.

Gloria and family, Kayla and I join you in our moments of grief and in celebrating Garth's life. We were excited and thankful to have gotten to know you both these past couple years. Life presents challenges but also moments of joy and togetherness. Garth modelled that for us as he met the challenges that were presented. I fondly remember our dinner out for pizza at Sparkys. Light and laughter be with you at this time even as a tear rolls down our cheeks.

Gloria and Family,
My deepest sympathy for the loss of Garth. Not only was he my all-time favourite University professor, but my current mentor and friend. Garth was instrumental in both encouraging me to pursue my dreams to teach at the U of R, as well as acting as a reference to help get me there. He gave me support, resources, and guidance and always made me laugh. He was a big picture thinker that truly valued the interdisciplinary connections and interrelatedness of all living systems. His desire to reorient education toward a path of humility, integrity, and sustainability is a noble and meaningful goal that served as his life's work. My favourite memories of Garth are from our Outdoor Education trips to Saskairie where he would enthusiastically lead us in rounds of campfire songs and laughs. Garth was a dedicated and passionate teacher that always had his students' best interests at heart. I have not met another person with more heart than Garth. His passion for teaching, environmental issues, and reorienting education is unparalleled. He will be in my heart always. I am so blessed to have had Garth in my life and I know that I am a better person because of him. I think of Garth any time that I go and "sit on a rock" somewhere to think about the important things in life. Until we meet again - love you Garth!

My condolences to Family, Friends and Students.
I had the honor and pleasure of sharing many years of my life with Garth. He was a true friend, life adviser and kindred spirit.
I will always treasure the conversations that we had together after our meetings. He had such unique way of getting a point across. I found I had to be patient with his explanations but at the end there were was wisdom gained through his life experiences. I can not really say that any conversation that I had with Garth he always gotten a little piece about how much she loved and cared for his wife Gloria. What an awesome love you share.
The last time we were able to have a really in-depth conversation was on Christmas Day Dec 25 2019. Glenn, Garth and me were to spend part of Christmas Day visiting each other at the Regina General Hospital while they were both admitted. I will always Treasure that memory. Soon after that life got busy and then COVID-19 hit. I like all of you wished that I had spent more time with him during the past year. Life is brief enjoy the moment.

It was my privilege and good fortune to work with Garth in the Faculty of Education at the U of R for 13 years. He was a leader and mentor and it was so easy and enjoyable to collaborate with him on projects and committees.
There was no task too big that Garth wouldn't tackle and give it his"all". His passion for and commitment to teacher education was enviable.
Garth , thanks for the memories and for helping to make our world a better place.
To Gloria and family, my deepest condolences.

I was privileged to have been a student of Garth, and then a colleague and friend. His energy, enthusiasm, love for his students, the outdoors and teacher education are all gifts which will be treasured and missed. Remembering bologna cups, a trust walk, quando quando, the magic clap...and your smile. Imagining you singing and joking around with the angels, Garth.
May your many wonderful memories bring you all comfort.

I am saddened by the news of Garth's passing. I pray that Gloria, Brandi, Brad and their families, as well as Mary, can hold onto many good memories of times with Garth. Garth was a fabulous educator and positively influenced many who had the privilege of knowing him as a "teacher". Garth was a cousin to my late husband Steve, and I have many fond memories of Garth as I recall the Thompson and Pickard "boys" as they went through university and Scouts. I remember Garth for his love of the outdoors, music, family, and friends. I am blessed for having the opportunity to know Garth over many years. Rest in Peace.

Dear Gloria, Brandi, Brad and families. Sincere condolences on the loss of your husband, father, and grandfather. Garth was a pretty cool guy and in reading over his obituary, I was reminded that he did a lot of good things in his time on this Earth too! My memories of course are primarily those of being 'the kid cousin (in law)" and sitting around the campfires at Whitney Lake while Garth played the guitar and sang, and the rest of us chorused along in varying degrees of talent. When I heard the news of his passing, the memories that came to mind for me are of a happy, friendly welcoming person who was full of fun. So saddened for you as the family when I heard of his illness and passing I know he will be missed, but I also KNOW he's singing and entertaining where he is now. I also always think of Garth as my moms grade one student and seem to recall a story about a ? turtle or some other antic he got up to. Clearly he got one over that teacher the way he and she both told the story. . Please accept my sincere sympathies. Karen and family Edson AB.
