Obituary of Doris Mary Louise Hey

Doris Mary Louise Hey, of Regina, SK, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2021 at the age of 91 years.  She was predeceased by parents Walter and Elizabeth Hey; brother Hilbert Hey; sister-in-law Ruth Hey; and nephew Gary Hey.  As an aunt and great aunt, “Auntie Dodo” was very involved with and close to her extended family, sharing an avid love for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.  Doris is survived by niece Rhonda (Ron) Schulz; niece-in-law Brenda (Gary) Hey; great-niece Roxanne (Kevin) Klassen; great-nephew Devin (Leia) Hey; great-niece Rachelle (Jason) Holterman; great-niece Rulene (Warren) Gilroy; great-niece Renee (Devin) Schulz, and her great-great nieces and nephews: Sophie, Cameron, Truitt, Sierra, Hunter, Devin Jr., and Avery. Doris was a committed community volunteer for many years, which was acknowledged through a Lifetime Achievement Award nomination at the 2013 Saskatchewan Senior Volunteer Awards.  At that time, she had volunteered for the previous 25 years with the Pasqua Hospital Auxiliary.  Since 1959, she volunteered for the IODE Prairie Lily Chapter, continuing to be an active member until she recently became ill.  She also joined the Angels 4 Warmth Inc. by contributing knitted goods for women and children in crisis, inner city schools, and seniors’ care homes. In 2013, she had logged in excess of 8,000 hours to date with the Pasqua Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop, and she continued to volunteer several years after.  Doris was a special person from her early years in fact, she was the first civilian in Regina to receive penicillin at the age of 13 to treat a severe case of blood poisoning, which she may not have survived without.  A private family graveside ceremony and burial will be held at a later date.  The family wishes to thank the caring medical and nursing staff at Regina Wascana Grace Hospice.  Friends and family wishing to do so may make memorial donations to the Bulyea Cemetery at Box 37, Bulyea, SK, S0G 0L0.
