"Ghale Aave Nanka Sade Uthi Jahe"
O Nanak! All of us come to this world when sent by the Divine, and depart from the world when called back by Him. – Guru Angad Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 1239
Our beloved Mohinder Singh passed away peacefully at Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK on January 14, 2021 at the age of 80 years after a brave and courageous battle with cancer.
Mohinder Singh was born in village Sanghe, in the State of Punjab, India on June 15, 1940 to Bhan Singh and Harnam Kaur. He was the youngest child of his parents. Mohinder married Kulwant Kaur in April 1966 and they were together for 54+ years. Besides his loving wife Kulwant, Mohinder is also survived by his sons, Baljinder (daughter-in-law, Sheena), Jatinder (daughter-in-law, Jyoti), daughter Rupinder (son-in-law, Bawa Sandhu), grandchildren Amrita, Babita, Khushi, Bisman, Ranjyot and Gursehj; brother-in-laws, extended family and dear friends.
After completing his high school, Mohinder joined Indian Navy sailing to different countries, and retired as Chief Petty Officer serving for about 11 years. While in the Navy, he completed his Electrical Engineering degree (AMIE) for career advancement. He joined Punjab State Electricity Board in 1969 and retired in 1999 as Senior Executive Engineer (Sen-XEN) after serving PSEB for about 30 years.
Mohinder’s post-retirement life was dedicated to his passion for travel, walking, making new friends, reading books, and playing Sudoku and Free Cell games on his mobile or laptop. Mohinder enjoyed his trips to the Philippines, England, Singapore, and the USA. Mohinder frequently visited Canada since 2009 to stay with his children before receiving his Permanent Residency in 2016. He loved interacting with his grandkids, spending time with family and friends. He will also be remembered for his love for outdoor adventures, especially going to the Rocky Mountains. On the ski hills of Fernie, he showed his enthusiasm for adventures by riding a moving Gondola at the age of 78, a few months after his encounter with a stroke. His friendly nature was inspiring to anyone he met. One of his unique qualities was to be ready and get dressed several hours before going to any occasion.
Known for his sense of humour and relaxed perspective on life, Mohinder had down to earth personality. He began each day listening to Gurbani. He had a wealth of knowledge in all areas, be it history, politics, religion, engineering and many other areas. He was the family’s dictionary and encyclopedia. Few times a day, he will check on the weather on his mobile and then check outside if the prediction is correct and plan his dress for outdoor walks accordingly. He had been documenting his life in his personal diaries over the years which he continued even during his ailment. We look forward to reading them. Mohinder will also be remembered for his humorous personality, and for sharing many interesting stories of his adventurous life.
Mohinder had a soft and kind heart. He always tried his best to help the needy especially poor people with sickness without their knowledge. He had a big heart for animals and their wellbeing and even donated money for treatment of stray and wounded animals.
Mohinder led a happy and joyful life up to his final days. He will be forever loved and missed by his family / friends and will forever be in our hearts.
May Waheguru guide you home and gentle winds lift your wings; Rest in Peace.
