Maria “Mary” Johanna Van De Kamp, of Regina, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2021.  She was predeceased by parents Albertus and Everdina Nijland; brothers Bert and Gerhard; son Ben; son-in-law Gerry; and daughter-in-law Louise. Mary is survived by her children, daughter Johanna (Ray); son John; daughter Mary; grandchildren and their families, Robert (Carrie), Laurie (Chris), Michael (Shannon), Schaana (Eddie), Amanda (Julius), and Erinn (Collin); and daughter-in-law Marion.   Mom loved her family so much.  She was a great mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and a friend to many.

Mom, Dad and four children arrived to Canada from Holland.  Mom could not speak any English, over the years mom became very proficient. She was an avid seamstress; she worked many years sewing drapes, designing and sewing clothes.  Mom loved working in the garden and tending to her beautiful flowers.  She loved to dance; many times she went to the casino show lounge for the polka nights.  Mom enjoy the fun things in life, she laughed a lot.  Mom enjoyed swimming, on a regular basis she would meet with a group of friends and spend time at Sandra Schmirler Leisure Centre.  Mom enjoyed going to Moose Jaw for shopping and spending time at the Spa.  Mom always dressed impeccably.  She took pride in her appearance and clothing, she was very fashionable.  Mom took pride in everything she did, her moto was, “if you can’t do it right don’t do it”.  Mom loved to travel, she was proud to say she went to Vegas six times.  She went back to Holland a few times to spend time with family and friends; she also went to Germany and Paris.  Mom was very active with the church and helped whenever she was asked.

The family would like to thank the staff at Sunset Extendicare who took such great care of our Mother.
