Stuart Mann

Obituary of Stuart Glenn Mann

The life of a kind, generous and intelligent man came to a peaceful close on Sunday, January 17, 2021, five days shy of his 94th birthday. Stuart was born in Regina to Maud E. Mann (Morton) and David M. Mann on January 22, 1927. He was the first in his family to graduate from university, receiving a Bachelor of Arts (1948) and Bachelor of Commerce (1950). After graduation, Stuart worked with the provincial government and then at GMAC. He was transferred to Saskatoon where he met the love of his life, Yvonne Willems. Stuart was very persistent in his attempts to gain Yvonne’s attention by regularly bringing his bank deposit to her teller cage at the Royal Bank. The two were married on October 2, 1954 in Watrous and began their life together in Saskatoon. Stuart started working at the University of Saskatchewan and was later transferred to Regina College (now University of Regina). He held many roles during his 33-year career with the university, including Accountant, Controller, and Associate Vice-President of Finance and Services, the latter being his role until his retirement in 1988. Stuart had many interests and passions. He was an active member of many community groups and organizations, including Junior Achievement, The United Way, The Regina Chamber of Commerce, Sherwood Credit Union Board, and the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation. He was a member of the Canadian Army Reserves, retiring with the rank of Major. Stuart was the recipient of the Canada 125 Medal in 1992 which was awarded to a select group of Canadians who made a significant contribution to their fellow citizens, community or to Canada. He attended Knox Metropolitan Church and held multiple roles within the church. Stuart attended and supported the Regina Symphony Orchestra and established scholarships for young music students through the University of Regina Conservatory of the Performing Arts and the Regina Music Festival. One of Stuart’s passions was travelling with his wife. They developed a keen interest in Chinese culture through eight educational and cultural exchange tours to China. They also enjoyed countless other trips together. They spent their summers at their cottage at Manitou Beach where great memories were made and many laughs were shared with good friends and family. When Stuart reflected on his life, he said he had been very fortunate in many ways and had a good life. He will be remembered by family for his quirky comments, love for dessert and his “role” as grammar police. Stuart instilled the importance of eating breakfast, and he would remind us to “be good once in a while, just so you remember how”. He was predeceased by his three older sisters, Margaret Mann, Mabel Beattie, and Jean McKillop; and niece Heather (Beattie) Whittaker. Stuart is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Yvonne; and their children Frazer (Lori) Mann, Murray (Lisette Frigon) Mann, Kim (Rod) Hladun, and Maureen (Rick Love) Mann. He is also survived by his pride and joy, his grandchildren Chay, Ashley, Jaymie, Willow, Jonathan (Andrea), David (Cassie), Carolyn (Curtis), and Brian (Chellsie); great grandchildren, Kaylie, Avery and Ivan; brother-in-law Garry (Lorna) Willems; niece and nephews Scott Willems, Paul Willems, Marian (McKillop) Powell and John Beattie, and several cousins. The family wishes to thank the staff at Harbour Landing Village, Pasqua Hospital, and Regina Wascana Grace Hospice for their care of Stuart. A Celebration of Stuart’s Life will be held at a later date. Flowers are respectfully declined. Memorial donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
