Condolences to the family and friends of Sister Joan. I was one of her piano students at St. Michael's Academy in Brandon. She was a formidable force and a gentle soul. She had a way of helping me select music that was just right for me. She wasn't overly forthcoming with praise, but you knew by the look in her eyes when she was pleased with what you were doing. I excelled under her direction. I moved away after university, but my mom would still often run into her so I would get updates with how she was doing. She was a gift to the world.

My thoughts and prayers are with Sister Joan's family and friends. She taught me everything that I know about playing piano from age 9 to 18 and helped me develop a strong appreciation of music and the arts. My favorite moments were when Sister Joan would play excerpts from pieces (she could play anything so well!) so I could choose the music I would focus on learning for the next year.

My condolences to the family and friends of Sister Joan Miller. I was one of the recipients of her great care for her piano students at Brandon University; her smile, work ethic, and gentle direction, have carried me through into a career as a musician to this day. It was my great pleasure to meet with Sister Joan a few times in the summers when I could return to Brandon for visits. Her cheery smile carried all the warmth of home.
