Obituary of Eric Seidlitz

On February 2, 2021 Eric passed peacefully in his sleep lying next to his wife Marj, the love of his life.

Born and raised on a family farm in the Kedleston/Moorland district, Eric developed a love for the land and an appreciation for the value of hard work.  In 1954 he married Marj and they moved to Regina.  He took drafting classes which started his career as a draftsman with a steel fabricating company.  Eric worked for that company for 35 years.  Working 40 hours a week was never enough to satisfy his passion for getting things done.

He moonlighted during evenings and weekends with his cousin putting in furnaces and duct work.  Later he resumed farming.  Weekends and his vacation leave were spent working the land.  He called himself a suitcase farmer.  Friday after work the family packed up and moved to the farm returning Sunday evening to begin the next week on the job in Regina.  Farming and working as a draftsman kept him busy and this suited him just fine.  He was always happiest when he was working.

After retiring from his draftsman job, Marj and Eric moved to the farm full time where they lived (the happiest time of their lives) until their move to a retirement home in Regina.  Living full time on the farm gave him access to a limitless supply of projects to fill his days and evenings.

In addition to Eric’s love for work, his other passions included berry picking, walking, dancing, socializing, horseshoes and crib. The most common comment you would hear from those he interacted with was “what a nice man.”  He treated people with courtesy, respect and he truly appreciated anything anyone did for him.

In the months leading up to Eric’s passing he was well aware the end was near. He was at peace with what he had accomplished and the life he had lived. While he will be missed, we could not reasonably ask him to stay longer.  Eric leaves behind his wife of 66 years, Marj; his sons Don (Ruth) and Dave (Gale); grandchildren Carrie (Cam), Jeremy (Nancy), Dane (Sara) and Kalie (MacKenzie); and four great-grandchildren all of whom loved him dearly.
