For most of my life Michael, along with Kay and Dave joined our family for Christmas, Easter and any other occasion he might be visiting for. I can still hear his laugh as we played games after dinner, and often a story or two would come out as well. He was such a kind, quiet, gentle soul. Rest in Peace Michael.

Michael, we are going to miss you. However, we have a lot of memories of good times we had as we were growing up together. For a start, you made our mother very happy to have a boy after three girls. We enjoyed playing together and our home and yard always welcomed the neighbor kids to play kick the can or baseball. After that, mom would mix up sweet drinks which we consumed as we laughed and talked sitting at our round table.
So rest in peace, Michael. We will keep you in our love and prayers.

I have fond memories over the decades of my uncle Michael, even though we lived far apart throughout most of my life. As a child we would pass through and spend a few days or weeks at the farm. During those visits, I remember my wonder at Michael's command of a vast array of farm machinery, something quite outside my "city-life" experience. I also recall the beauty of the seemingly endless fields of grain that Michael's labor produced. On one of our longer visits I even attended the Grand Coulee school for a few weeks. The picture below was taken when Michael visited my wife and me in Nashville. It shows Michael in the centre, with (left to right) my mother, my aunt Kathleen, my wife Sharon, and (a much younger) me. With modern technology in the form of Skype, I probably spoke more with Michael in the past few years than I had before. I will miss that.

To most he was Mike but for us Hantelmann’s kids he was affectionally known a Uncle Michael. Driving out to farm to tell stories, drink tea and eat mum’s cookies.
One of our favourite stories is about a dog he used to have, the dog would let anyone into the yard but when one neighbour came out to look for a part in his shop the dog followed him in but wouldn’t let the neighbour out of the shop until he dropped the part. He would just chuckle every time he told that story.
All us Hantelmann kids will miss him dearly, he was a huge part of our lives growing up.

I have several long-term memories of Michael: he attended our wedding long ago, and he came to visit us in Nashville. A more recent memory centers on the time when the Robertsons moved from their 4-bedroom home to their 2-bedroom apartment. That meant a large task of disposing of some 40 years worth of belongings. Michael, then in his 80s, was there to do a great deal of the "heavy lifting": he carried boxes, loaded wood, and remained jovial at all times. The world has lost a wonderful spirit and a man with a heart of gold. You will be missed.

So sorry to hear about Mike's passing. My dad Pete Sawchuk farmed with Mike for many years and I was fortunate enough to help at seeding and harvest. Though I didn't realize it at the time (I was 13-18) this was one of the best experiences of my life. The conversations these guys had (Mike, the Hanntleman's, my dad) was like who can swear the most without anyone even noticing. It was always a laugh a minute, even when one of the Hanntleman's cars caught fire during harvest. Everyone just knew what to do and saved the crop from a fire. My mom and dad would have Mike over often for dinner or coffee and he was always good to my dad. I will miss him.
