Rude. I was lucky to have you as my Uncle! Your laid back attitude and great sense of humor seemed to draw people to you. I always looked forward to Christmas dinner at the Richter’s place because it was guaranteed to be delicious and lots of fun! And it never disappointed. All of the games we played, whether it was cards, board or dice, were always a blast, with the dining room table (that you custom made) packed with standing room only. You were well known for being able to build, fix, or repair anything you put your mind to while doing a professional job of it. I will always remember how you kicked everyone’s butt at ping-pong without even looking like you were trying. You were a gentle soul with a heart of gold. I will miss you Uncle.

Dear Uncle Rude, you were the coolest uncle ever ! I was always greeted with smile & a Hey Sue ! You were defintely a jack of all trades, from your trade as a bricklayer, to restoring the old chevy, making coffee & end tables, for the whole family, any board games that we would play for $ at Xmas, your self taught talents were immeasureable ! When i bought my first stereo, i made you listen to it, i played Steely Dan's, "Reelin in the Years" waay too loud, & you just stood there with a big smile & said, sounds good Sue ! I will stow away the time, you had on this earth, in my heart, love you big guy, RIP Rude.

The first time I remember going to Rudy and Connie’s was Christmas, I think I couldn’t have been more than nineteen or twenty years old. Karen said her uncle would likely offer me a Harvey Wallbanger as soon as I walked in. Seems to me he did. That was about 45 years and a lot of Christmas’s ago. Always spent on Froom Crescent.
My first experience working with Rudy was his fence on Froom that is still there now. Rudy and Grandpa and me. That was an eye opener! I was pretty green then, and just a little scared to go back the second day. They both definitely had their own opinion. You couldn’t help but learn some things around those two.
Rudy and I had a lot of garage talks over the years. It would start, so Pat what you working on these days? And away we would go. My projects and Rudy’s projects. We worked a lot of things out in that garage. He was generous, kind and always giving of his time and advice. A great man and a true friend. I’ll miss you Rudy.
Pat

How do you start to write something about someone who has been there for your whole life and is now gone? When I think back, there is never a time I don’t remember Uncle Rudy not being there. From the time they built their house and I was there to ‘help’ clean before they moved in (and I was all of seven years old so you can imagine how much help I was!) to having Rudy take home movies of my oldest son when he was about 10 days old. Remembering all the Christmas’ on Froom Crescent, with raucous games of rummy, the horse race game and the dice game! You would have thought we were playing for millions, not nickels, dimes and occasionally quarters! Remembering his skill at making things, from the plant shelves we still have, to the brick planter we have at the front of our house, which is still as straight as the day he laid it. Fresh vegetables from the garden being dropped off in the summer and apple pie at Christmas made with their own apples. Life changed over the past few years, as it does, but these are the some of things I’ll remember. Me saying Rude! when I saw him, and his reply, Kare! These pictures are how I’ll remember him, smiling and happy. I’ll miss you!
Love Karen
