Obituary of Andrew Joseph Fettig

Andrew Joseph Fettig passed away peacefully at the age of 87 years on Tuesday, March 16, 2021. Predeceased by his wife Yvonne (nee Pelletier); parents John (Hans) and Mary [Maria Magdalena (nee Fiitterer)]; brothers Alexander (Alex), and Anton (Tony); sisters-in-law Wilma and Doreen Fettig; sisters Magdelena (Lena) Danchuk and Catherine (Kay) Butler; and brothers-in-law Bill and John. Survived by twin brother Amos of Taber, AB; children Alison Wood of Regina, SK, Ryan Fettig of Toronto, ON, Kelly (Werner) Biegler of St. Albert, AB, Chris [Colleen (nee Lariviere)] Fettig of Pinehouse Lake, SK, and Dallas McFadden(Corey) of Regina; grandchildren Payton Wood, Connor and Brett Biegler, along with Kaylee, Madison, and Owen Fettig, and many treasured nieces, nephews and other relatives. Andrew was born on March 19, 1933 at the family farm near Grass Lake, AB. He started his 35 year career with the PFRA at the St. Mary’s Dam Project in southern Alberta then moved to Gardiner Dam, Diefenbaker Lake.  At that time he met Yvonne in Outlook, SK and was smitten right away. Their first date was going to church, and six months later they were married. On December 31, 1969, the coldest day of the year, dad packed up five children, one dog, mom and all her plants to move for the last time to Regina. Dad had many interests. Many winter nights he could be found downstairs building a total of six model ships like the Bluenose and Cutty Sark. If the plans didn’t include all the pieces he would make them himself; he was that ingenious. Dad also had a love of sports. Watching baseball, curling, and tennis to name a few. Genealogy was also something he put his heart and soul into. Mom and Dad extensively researched their German and French, Irish and Scottish heritages to create family histories for both sides of the family. A family reunion was never missed so they could update the “squirrelly books” for any new piece of familial information. Their picture perfect garden and yard were important to him as well. Due to COVID restrictions, a Memorial Service will be held at a later date.  The Graveside Service will be available for viewing on Andrew’s Tribute Page on the Speer’s website.  In lieu of flowers etc., we would like to honour his wife Yvonne with donations to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation at bcrf.org.
