A person that loses a partner is called a widow. A child that loses a parent is called an orphan. But there is no word to describe a parent that loses a child, because that is a loss like no other.
I know how you cherish your boys and they were always number one to you and the love you have for them. I bet you never missed one game or sports event over the years and those are the memories that you will now cherish. I know what a proud father you are.
Although I only met Riley just once at the Exchange Club a number of years ago, his smile definitely lit up the room. I know he was a good kid by the way you spoke of him over the years.
Be strong and give Kobe a big hug and let him know that eventually everything will be okay. You know the loss of a brother. I hope you find comfort knowing that Riley is now at peace and he is watching over and protecting you now.

While I can not say I know exactly what you are going through, my sister lost her son, my nephew, at the young age of 29. I can tell you grief is a long road and you will be navigating your feelings and emotions for a long while. I am extremely sorry for the loss of your son. While I do not know you personally, I still wish to share a poem with you.
