Obituary of Elaine Ann Kirchner

Elaine Ann Kirchner

September 16, 1945 – April 24, 2021

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Elaine on April 24, 2021 at the age of 75.

Mom passed away peacefully after a two-year battle with cancer. Predeceased by her parents, Bernard and Christine Zurowski, she is survived by her husband Ron; daughters Cheryl (Steve), Carolyn O’Quinn (Jason), and Christine; grandsons Brian (Cassandra), Ellijah, Koby, and Ryan; great-granddaughter Isabella; and sister-in-law Susan Cherewyk. Mom also leaves behind a lot of good friends, many of whom she met over her 40+ years working at the Victoria Club in Regina.

Mom spent most of her working life at the Victoria Club and the Club members and other staff were like a second family to her. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing her always appreciated that she was one of the hardest working people around – demonstrated by the fact that she continued working up until just before she turned 75.  She was always willing to lend a hand, or just listen – in that she was the perfect bartender. Mom also functioned as the club caterer for a number of years and was famous for her cabbage rolls. In fact, she once traded a pot of cabbage rolls for a used car that Cheryl and Carolyn spent their teen years driving (the “cabbage roll” car). Mom was also an active bowler and spent many enjoyable Saturday afternoons with her bowling team – the Guess Who - enjoying the camaraderie (and a Corona or two). In the summers, Mom could be found relaxing out at the family cottage at B-Say-Tah.

We would like to thank mom’s best friend, Angela Marchuk for her ongoing support, especially over these last months. Also, the family would like to thank the wonderful SHA Home Care staff, Dr. Iqbal and Dr. Ferguson of the Allan Blair Cancer Centre, and the wonderful staff of the Palliative Care Unit of the Pasqua Hospital for their compassionate care.

At Mom’s request, there will be no funeral service.  As the Victoria Club was so special to mom, we encourage family and friends to support the Club in whatever way they can (become a member, attend club events, or just drop in for an occasional visit).

In lieu of cards and flowers, those wishing to do so may consider making a donation, in memoriam, to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan or the Regina Humane Society.
