Darryl Jacobs

Obituary of Darryl John Jacobs

It is with a heavy heart that the family of Darryl Jacobs announce his passing on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease. Darryl was predeceased by his wife, Karon Jacobs; parents, Gerald and Thelma Jacobs; and parents-in-law, Jim and Ruth Anderson. Left to cherish his memory are his children Deborah (Dale) Jackson and Jim (Chantelle, Adam, Julie) Jacobs; his wife, Helen Bitter and her four children, Dana, Dara, Joel, Jessica, and their families; and his two sisters Donna (Dwayne) Barber, Cheryl (Glenn) Renwick and their families. Darryl’s life began on January 29, 1943 in Regina, SK. He was the eldest of three children and grew up on the family farm 6 miles north of Milestone, SK. After high school, Darryl attended the Voc Ag program at the U of S in Saskatoon and then moved to Winnipeg where he found his sweetheart, Karon. They married and moved to Saskatoon to start their family. After a few years Darryl packed up his family and moved back to the family farm in Milestone where he farmed with his father for the next 20 years. He became an active community member, while always making family his top priority. Darryl was a member of the local Credit Union Board, videoed many a dinner theater and enjoyed carving turkeys for the fall suppers. He loved to be involved in his kid’s lives and spent many years volunteering with the local Scouting group leading Cubs, Scouts and Venturers. Darryl was so happy spending time at the dinner table sharing a Coke float or painting pictures together. He and his son, Jim, even took Tae Kwon Do together. Darryl loved to have fun! Darryl, Karon and a few other families started a group called the Get-Togethers and would hold family fun events as a way to spend time together. After the passing of his wife, Karon, and his dad, Gerald; Darryl decided to retire from farming. He met Helen and moved to Regina where they had many new adventures together. They spent the next 20 years dancing, travelling, and enjoying their families. A Parkinson’s diagnosis was a challenge, but it never dampened Darryl’s spirit. He was a kind hearted man who would lend a hand or advice whenever needed. His patience was something else, just ask his son-in-law. Darryl was never one to let anything get him down for too long and he could always make you smile. He had a story or a joke for every occasion. There definitely will be a hole in the world where this bright light used to shine. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date due to current Covid19 restrictions. Darryl was such a generous man and liked to donate to numerous charities, in lieu of flowers you can honour him with a donation in his name to a charity of your choice.
