Mary Reta Streibel (nee Strank), age 83, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Wednesday, June 23, 2021. After being diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer 2 years ago, she endured countless chemo treatments and outlived all timelines the doctors gave her. Mary was a strong and determined woman and right up until the end she followed the Strank motto of, “Don’t tell me, I know!”

She was born March 15, 1938 in Rossburn, Manitoba to Annie and Wasyl Strynadka. Mary was the youngest of 15 children. At age 18, she moved to Regina to look for work. In 1956, Mary started work at the Revenue Building. In 1958, she married Arnold in Regina. Mary worked until 1965 when their second child arrived.

Family was always first for Mom. Cheering on her kids playing baseball, her grandkids playing soccer, and watching Ukrainian Dance were a priority for her. She attended Ukrainian Language Classes for years and you could always find her volunteering at the Kyiv Ukrainian pavilion at the Mosaic festival. Mom was an avid Saskatchewan Roughriders football fan having season tickets for 40 years. Curling was her sport in the winter months. When we think of Mom, we remember her great love of animals, gardening, knitting, ice fishing, and camping/travelling in the motorhome. Anyone that knew her, had a story to share about her.

Predeceased by her parents Annie and Wasyl; brothers Jack, Alec, Willie, Peter, George, Mike, Matt, Dan, Eddie, and Steve; and sisters Marie and Rose. Mary is survived by her husband of 63 years, Arnold; children Dale, Debbie, and Deanna (Jason); and grandchildren Brayden, Zachary, Abbey, Ella, Ryan and Sadie. Also survived by her sister Stella Yakiwchuk; brother Paul (Mildred) Strank; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

We would like to thank Dr. Souied and Val of the Allan Blair Cancer Centre and the doctors and nurses of the Palliative Care Team for their assistance in navigating this difficult time. We appreciate their support and guidance in helping us make Mom’s final journey a peaceful one. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Mom's name may be made to the Regina Humane Society, Box 3143, Regina, SK S4P 3G7 or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre St, Regina, SK S4P 2R3.

You are welcome to join us for a Celebration of Mom’s life on Monday, July 12th, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 1C5.
