GALENZOSKI, Harold

Harold Philip Galenzoski passed away peacefully on Monday, June 28, 2021 at the age of 93 years.  He was predeceased by his parents Karl and Anna (nee Huber) Galenzoski; brothers Charlie, Lloyd and twins Ron and Bob.  He was also predeceased by his wives Maxine and Mavis.  Harold is survived by his children Gaylene (Roger) Weir, Darrell Galenzoski, Susan (Michel) Reinberg, and Tom Galenzoski; his step-children Rod Hilderman, Bob (Jan) Hilderman, Jeff (Tanis) Hilderman, and Diane (Kelly) Jamison; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister Irene Martin; sisters-in-law Madelaine, Judy, Bev (Galenzoski) and Barb Hirsch; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Harold was born October 27, 1927 on the family farm north of Southey, SK.  In grade 8, his father became ill and he left school to help with the farming operations.  Although he didn’t return for a formal education, he had a lifelong interest in reading and learning.

In 1955, dad met our mother Maxine and they were married October 15, 1955.  They moved to Regina  and dad worked briefly for Simpson Sears and the Department of Mineral Resources.  In 1956 he was offered full time employment with the Co-op Refinery and worked there for 37 years, retiring at age 65.  In 1971 our mother died as a result of an automobile accident.  As adults, we have more appreciation about how a widowed father did such a great job as “Mr. Mom” to raise us four children.  Being the Co-op poster child dad was, on Saturdays, we would head to the Sherwood Co-op for gas, groceries, shopping, and for our “Co-op Special” for lunch – Co-op met all our needs!

In 1974, dad married Eleanor Mang.  Eleanor had two girls (Shelley and Donna).  They divorced in 1978.

On January 30, 1982 at a singles dance, dad made arrangements with a lady he hardly knew to curl at an NDP bonspiel.  Well, it was love at first sight and he married this lady, Mavis Theaker, April 13, 1984.  Dad was a devoted, loving husband until Mavis’ death in 2018.

Dad was active in politics, the co-operative movement and union business.  He also had a passion for family history, camping, dancing, music, table tennis, and curling.  He was a die-hard Montreal Canadians fan.  He had many challenges in his life and his faith and personality helped him handle life situations with grace and resilience.

Dad was a patient and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and husband.  He made the time to stay connected with his family and friends.  Dad was always on top of current events - even as children he would drill us at supper about what’s happening around the world.  Family was important to him and right up until his recent decline he would connect with his family through Skype, Facebook and email.

Friends and family so wishing may make donations, in memory of Harold, to the Salvation Army, 2240 13th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3M7 or to the Canadian Red Cross, 2050 Cornwall Street, Regina, SK S4P 2K5.  To view the livestream of the service, please click on the link to Speers TV at the top of this page.
