Obituary of Donald Percy Slager

Don passed away peacefully on Monday, July 19, 2021 at the age of 92 years. Don was predeceased in 2012 by his wife of 61 years, Natalie; and his son-in-law, Jim Quickfall in 2019.  He will be greatly missed by his children, Robert (Jeannette), Don (Barb), and Raye Quickfall; grandchildren, David Sobush, Robert, Wanda (Dennis), Donna (Slade) Boyes, Scott Slager, Sandy (Mike) Blackmore, Amy Quickfall, and Amber (Jordan) Doucette; sisters Joan (Larry) Reykdal and Betty Von Hagen; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Don joined the RCMP in 1947, serving in Toronto, Sault Ste. Marie, and Yellowknife, where he met and married Natalie, the love of his life. In 1957, they moved to Regina where Don joined the Regina City Police, retiring in 1982.  Don curled in every city he lived in, playing in bonspiels with his wife in Canada and the United States.  One of his fondest memories was representing the NWT in Alberta playoffs in 1954 and winning the Policemen’s Dominion Curling Championship in 1968 and 1959.  Don bowled, golfed, played hockey, fastball, and cards with family and friends. Don and Natalie spent many years watching the Milwaukee Brewers and the Anaheim Angels in spring training and travelling forming many friendships along the way.  He was active in the United Church for many years.  Don will be remembered for his love of family, and his kind and caring nature.  He was in every sense of the word a caregiver of people.  A Funeral Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Monday, July 26, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow at Speers Family Center, 2333 Cornwall Street, Regina, SK.
