Obituary of Darwin Scott Gettle

GETTLE, DARWIN SCOTT

June 30, 1958 – July 11, 2021

It is with great sadness that the family of Darwin Scott Gettle announce his peaceful passing on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at the age of 63 years in Regina, SK. Darwin was predeceased by his mother Leona; father Alfred; brothers Blaine and Ronald; sister Angela; and grandma Ruby Wahpoosyan. He is survived by his son Dustin (Taylor); daughter Carey Lynn; brother Jeffrey (Laurel); grandchildren, Owen, Addison, and Baby Benjamin; and Della (mother of his children); favorite dog Pedro; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Darwin was born in Regina and is a proud band member of the Zagime Anishinabek (Sakimay First Nations). He was raised on his First Nation for 5 years by Ruby before moving to Coronation Park Area in Regina. Darwin attended Coronation Park School and Thom Collegiate high school. He was a great athlete in his youth, excelled at running long distance, track and field, soft ball, and ice hockey. Darwin held many records at the high school level in running and coached his daughter Carey to also become a great runner. He attended the University of Regina, taking Civil Engineering and later became an excellent draftsmen for a large firm. Darwin then became a journeyman carpenter and went into the construction business with his close friend Bill Emde and cousin Mark Gettle. He enjoyed his career, helping family whenever repairs, renovations, and upgrades were requested (especially his brother Jeffrey). Darwin enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, his nephew Christopher, and his family, especially during summer months. We especially enjoyed swimming and barbeques as Darwin was an excellent diver/swimmer from his Regent Pool experiences as a youth. Darwin's hobbies include a vast collection of antiques, sports paraphernalia, and various valuable pictures. He loved going to the Thoroughbred horse track and the major horse sporting events (attended breeder’s cup). Darwin also loved the casino and enjoyed a short career as a blackjack dealer for Regina Buffalo Buck. He enjoyed travel to Las Vegas, golf trips, and was also the biggest Toronto Maple Leaf fan (May they win in the future!) Darwin lived such a full life and will be missed, we are grateful for the many memories to cherish in our hearts. A come and go tea will take place Monday, July 26, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Speers Family Centre, 2333 Cornwall Street, Regina, SK. An open mic will be available for friends and family who wish to share memories and tributes to Darwin throughout the evening. Interment will take place at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
