Bernice Agnes Thompson (nee Bechtel) peacefully passed on August 24, 2021 in Regina. Mom had the unique experience of being born in 1918 during the Spanish flu pandemic and has slipped away during the COVID-19 pandemic. In between, she lived a long and healthy life. We, her children, had long been lulled into the sense that she would always be here.

Mom was born in Tompkins, Saskatchewan on Thursday, February 7, 1918. She was the first of five children born to Walter and Odell Bechtel. The family moved around following Walter’s work, finally settling in Prince Albert in 1934.

It was there that Mom met the love of her life, Ike Thompson. They married in 1949 and, together, raised 6 children. She is survived by Richard, Jeanne (Garry) Molitwenik, Susan Dugas, Bill (Gail), Nora and Tom (Kim); 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and brother-in-law Carl Wettlaufer.

Mom was predeceased by her husband Ike (1997); her son-in-law Phil; her brothers, Bernard, Jim, and Richard; and her sister Theresa.

In 2008, Mom made the move to Marian Chateau in Regina. She fit in well and developed some wonderful friendships. In 2018, we celebrated Mom’s 100th. We were fortunate that all of us could gather for the occasion.

Mom had a very strong faith. Every night of her life, Mom prayed for each member of our family. Though we often joked that your ranking on mom’s prayer list reflected the drama in your life, we were grateful for them.

The family is extremely grateful for the kindness and compassion shown Mom by the homecare teams, the staff at Grace Hospice and the excellent care of Dr. Greg Baumann.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Grace Hospice, 50 Angus Road, Regina, SK, S4R 8P6.

A service of celebration will be held at a later date.

“Well done my good and faithful servant.” Godspeed Mom.
