Kay passed away peacefully on August 30, 2021 at the age of 101. She was predeceased by her husband, William James (Jimmy) Oates; parents, Sydney and Annie Ackerman; stepfather, George Lowry; brothers, Clarence and George Ackerman; sister, Sydney Walsh; stepsister, Pearl Griffiths; sisters-in-law, Barbara Ackerman and Marion Ackerman; brother-in-law, Maynard Walsh; nephews, Wayne Ackerman and Don Ackerman.

Kay is survived by several nieces and nephews, Tom Walsh (Wendy Munson), Marjorie Walsh (Mark Burton), Laurie Walsh, and Bonnie (Andy) Schwindt; Joan (Bruce) Gilligan, Shelley Paysen, Janet (Terry) Johnson; Myrna Brost, Eric Ackerman, Linda Ackerman, Colleen (Syd) Estabrooks; as well as numerous great nieces and nephews.

Born near Woodrow, Saskatchewan, Kay graduated from Moose Jaw Normal School (Teachers College) prior to serving as Leading Air Woman in the RCAF during World War II.  Following her tenure in the service, she went to work for the Federal government in Trenton and Toronto where she had a 40 year career until retiring in 1984.  In 2000, Kay returned to Regina to be closer to family where she enjoyed many years in Marion Chateau prior to moving to Wintergreene Estates to be closer to her sister Sydney.  The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff for her care over the years.

Kay was an avid reader, enjoyed a good movie and loved a good visit over a cup of tea, even through FaceTime during Covid restrictions.  She had a good sense of humour and a contagious laugh.

Due to Covid-19, a private celebration of her life will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 3:30 p.m.  To view the livestream of the service and to leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.speersfuneralchapel.com. Interment will be held at a later date in Woodrow Cemetery.
