Obituary of Stanley James Hanson

HANSON, Stanley James

July 21, 1952 – September 6, 2021

With great sadness, the family of Stanley (Stan) James Hanson announces his passing on September 6, 2021, at the age of 69 following a short stay in the General Hospital.  He was predeceased by his parents, Orville and Elizabeth (Betty) Hanson; and his brother Wayne.  Stan is survived by his loving daughter Amanda Hanson; stepson Derek Kater and his wife Elvera; sister Ruth Hanson; niece Teri Hanson and her husband Edward; nephew Derek Hanson and his partner Sonya; special friends Murray and Glenda Foster; and many other relatives and friends.

Stan was the youngest of three children born to Orville and Betty. Stan’s first home was in the Bulyea area. Eventually he and his family moved to Saskatoon where he attended Walter Murray School.  Not afraid of hard work, Stan left Walter Murray in 1967 at the age of 15 and began working at a variety of different jobs. In 1972 he discovered his love of trucking and began a lifelong career which involved driving and dispatching semis. A true visionary in the industry, Stan could see future trends before they happened.

The birth of Stan’s daughter Amanda in 1997 was the happiest moment of his life and he always tried to be the best father that he could. He was a very quiet man with a kind soul and a bright smile. When his mother was alive, Stan was always there to make sure she had what she needed and was well taken care of!

When he was at his healthiest he was always there to help anyone in need and he loved to have people sharing his favorite meal – KFC and Pepsi! He enjoyed skating, golfing, going for walks and long nights at the casino. In his later years Stan suffered a hidden illness that caused him extreme emotional distress. Regardless he bravely and courageously carried on each and every day with a ready smile to everyone he met.  The family wishes to thank the staff at the Regina General Hospital for their care and compassion.

A private gathering to honor Stan’s Legacy will be held at a later date.
