I just found out today from Charlie’s grandson that Ernie had passed away. My previous husband Albert and I spent many hours visiting over the years with Ernie & Elinore. We had many a good time playing cards until the wee hours and having a few drinks at the Victoria Club in Regina. Ernie was a down to earth good guy! My sincere condolences to all his family. Ernie will be missed. May he Rest In Peace.

Today let me share with you an incident about Ernie that at the time was NOT as funny then as it is NOW when I think back on it.
This happened back in the 1990s when Rosa, Rhoda (Rosa’s mom) and I drove to Quesnel B.C. for a 50th wedding anniversary. On the way home we came down to Kamloops, then over to Calgary to spend a couple of days and visit with Ernie & Elinore. After getting settled in Calgary I got hold of Ernie and arranged an evening together for a visit. We stayed until around 10 and then headed back to our hotel room. On our way back through downtown Calgary Rhoda said to me “Dave how much younger is Ernie than you?” I thought I misunderstood her so I said “What did you say?” So she repeated her question and NO I had not misunderstand her. I was taken back, was contemplating booting her out of the vehicle but after careful consideration and regaining my composure I told her I think you need new glasses to which she said “why would you say that?” Then I told her I was younger in fact I was 14 years younger than Ernie and even though she thought I was older I would let her return with us to Regina. Nothing like her rubbing it in a bit more she said well he looks younger and he does not have any grey hair. I told her I did not have any hair so that was not a good comparison. When Ernie heard this he laughed and laughed and laughed. He even thanked Rhoda for the compliment and I could tell by the glint in his eye he would be sure to rub it into to me. And YES he did. When we told Rosa’s family they never let me live it down either in fact it became a standing joke and they would always ask me as did Rhoda “Dave how is that younger brother of yours doing?”
This is a very special memory for me as Rhoda passed away last November and now Ernie has also passed away. I hope they are not scheming anything up there for when it is my turn to join them. Thanks Mom and Ernie for the memory I will cherish it and both of you forever. May you both Rest in Peace I will miss you dearly.

So sorry to hear of Ernie’s passing. George and I were privileged to know both Elinor and Ernie at Pioneer Village and Regina Village. Ernie was so attentive to Elinore, visiting her and bringing her to Mass. George enjoyed visiting Ernie and bringing him Holy Communion. Ernie was so kind to others and could often be seen working on his jigsaw puzzles which he was very good at. Rest In Peace Ernie. George and Patti Schaan

To the family of Ernie. So sorry for your loss. He will be missed by many - he was kind, a great friend and went out of his way to help others. My mother Polly (Regina Village) was one of them. He helped her so much and we all appreciated it. I also enjoyed our chats and visits. Treasure all the fond memories.

I am sorry for your great lost. I have known him for 15 years as his cleaner to him and Elinore, I was not only his cleaner but he was my friend. As I worked we talked ,laughed, told jokes. As I never met all of his children I feel like I knew them all as he talked about his family to me. I will miss my friend as so many people at his home at the village, he looked after so many people and-donated his time with events, he was a great man and everyone loved him including myself. I am honored to know him and will always remember his stories, family will be in my prayers, Jeanne Tetlock

Tammy, we extend to you and your husband and daughters, your sister Carrie and her family, your Mom and your Dad, to all family and friends and to everyone who knows and loves your Grandpa, Ernest Ray West, our heartfelt condolences. May you all take comfort in knowing where he is and who he is with:
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
(The Words of Jesus, John 14:1-6 KJV)
