Obituary of Frank Benaschak

Frank Benaschak of Regina, SK passed away peacefully at the age of 87, surrounded by his loving family on the evening of September 27, 2021. He was predeceased by his parents Susie and Bill; son Brent; sister-in-law Marjorie Brown; brothers-in-law Marvin Brown, Bill Costley, and Harold Hoffman; nephew Rhett and nieces Kanda and Jody. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, June; his daughter Valerie (Doug); his grandchildren Brandon, Kristyne, Dustin and Rebekah; and remembered by his siblings and their families. Frank was born and raised in Bateman, SK on his family’s farm, the second of seven children. In his younger days he took pride in helping on the farm, eventually settling on a job in the meat cutting business. Frank owned and operated Frank’s Meats for 40 years and supplied restaurants such as Burger Baron on Albert Street, Western Pizza, Lee’s Chop Suey, Pasta Prima, and the Cottage. Though he had his hands full with the business he still continued his love of farming until his retirement. He also had a great love for many sports, including baseball, curling and hockey. Frank won an intermediate hockey championship when he was 23, and was still playing almost 40 years later, winning an old-timers hockey tournament in Florida in 1992. His happiest memories in his later years were visiting and travelling with his grandchildren and attending many of their sporting events. They will miss him dearly. Frank enjoyed country music and dancing, and though he was a man of few words he had a wonderful, dry sense of humor. The remainder of his years was spent at Pioneer Village where he received exceptional tender care, making his final years comfortable. Thank you to all who cared for and supported him. A Memorial Service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 1037 Victoria Avenue, Regina, SK, on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. The interment will take place at Bateman Cemetery on a later date. Presently we are allowed to have 120 guests. Due to the continued Covid pandemic please check with Saskatchewan Health for any new restrictions prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Parkinson’s Canada, 4211 Yonge Street Suite 316, Toronto, ON, M2P 2A9, https://www.parkinson.ca.
