On October 3, 2021, we said goodbye to our dear Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, Brother, and friend, John Jost, at the age of 87.
John passed away peacefully in the loving arms of his wife Dorothy and surrounded by his devoted daughters Trudy (Don), Janet (Wilf), and Sandra.
John leaves a legacy of lessons and memories to his grandchildren Nathan, Tyler, Stacey, Ashley, and Travis, and his great-grandchildren Edan, Finn, Mavi, Heath, Hallie, Dominic, Marissa, Chloe, and Abby. He will be remembered by his sisters Gretl and Gisela, and by his extended family in Austria; He was predeceased by his infant son Joseph; his sister Theresia and his brother Josef.
John was born in Poppendorf, Austria and, although he immigrated to Canada at 19, his love for his homeland and its culture played a key role in his life that he was enthusiastic to share with his children and their families. While John enjoyed being at the Austrian Canadian Edelweiss Club of Regina socializing with his countless friends, and as an avid hunter and fisherman being a lifetime member of its Osterreich Jagd and Fisch Verein (The Austrian Hunting and Fishing Club), he also contributed back to his treasured community. John was the founding President and longtime Board Member of the Club, generously giving his time and energy to celebrating Austrian culture.
John was a skilled carpenter who enjoyed his work and operated his own company, J. Jost Construction. His woodworking legacy can be found in many places in Regina, reflecting his pride in everything he did.
Above all else, John was a devoted family man who enjoyed spending time with all of his loved ones. He was always up for a competitive game of 31 and was willing to take anyone’s money! His grandchildren and great-grandchildren cherished his gentle soul and his unhesitating willingness to play with them. His daughters are devastated by his loss, but treasure every memory of their adored Dad and are grateful for the time they had. A beloved husband of 64 years, John was a true partner with Dorothy and together they made a supportive, happy, and welcoming home for their children and their families. John was always there when needed, showing up anywhere and anytime to lend a hand or encouragement.
