I was greatly saddened to hear of the loss of Justice Tallis.
Justice Tallis was the kindest, gentlest and wisest of jurists. I recently came across a quote he had read during an appeal in one my cases. It was about the nature of public service and was a very powerful message.
He loved books, witnessed by the request that donations go to the Law library. He always had a smile and a twinkle in his eye. In his own quiet way, he mentored younger members of the Bar. When I was a younger lawyer, I greatly appreciated receiving the benefit of his kindness.
He was the quintessential gentleman.
