Obituary of James Gordon Hayward
James “Jim” Gordon Hayward, late of Regina, SK, passed away on Friday, October 15, 2021 at the age of 85.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Mona; son Kenneth; grandsons James and Giuseppe; and his parents and siblings.
Jim is survived by his four daughters, Kim (Rick), Wendy, Janet and Donna (Corey); his nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
James was born in Renwer, Manitoba on June 6, 1936. At the age of 19 he joined the military and was stationed in Edmonton. James and Mona were married in 1957, in 1958 started their family and over the next eleven years had four daughters and one son.
During his military career, Jim moved his family to Germany twice, to Calgary and then to Regina, where he retired in 1980. He stayed on with the military as a custodian of Camp Saskadet, located north of Kelvington, SK on Round Lake until returning to Regina in 1985.
For the next 12 years, Jim was employed with the Corps of Commissionaires. He had many different duties which placed him at several locations in the city.
In 1997, Jim and Mona sold their home, packed up their trailer and became Snowbirds until 2006 when Mona became ill.
In 2011, Jim returned to Regina and lived in a retirement home until becoming ill in 2019 and was then placed in the Veteran's Ward of Wascana Rehabilitation Center until his death.
The family would like to send their sincerest thank you to Doctor Bailey, Joel and the many staff in Unit 3-5 of the Wascana Rehabilitation Center who provided special care to Jim.
