Velma Hewetson

Obituary of Velma Maxine Hewetson

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Velma Hewetson, beloved mother and grandmother on Wednesday, October 20, 2021.

Velma was born in Saskatoon on December 22, 1928 to George and Diana Hewetson, the youngest of four children. After finishing high school, she headed to Los Angeles and spent a year working there. She returned to Saskatoon and started at SaskTel in 1948, working as an operator and later in the business office where she met Bert Muench. She married Bert in 1956 and stayed home to raise two children, Marina and Donald. They moved around the province a bit but eventually settled in Regina.

Velma was an amazing gardener, every year she started hundreds of bedding plants for her flower gardens and spent hours tending her yard. She was also an excellent cook; she made the best roast beef and gravy ever! She enjoyed sewing and once she became a grandma put together the most inventive costumes for the grandkids. Whatever they wanted, she found a way to make it work. She was an extremely devoted and attentive grandma and the only babysitter the kids ever had.

Velma was predeceased by Bert in 2014; Marina in 1983; and by her siblings, Russell, Harvey and Marguerite. She is survived by her son Don (Kathy) and her grandchildren, Pamela (Nathan), Suzanne, Andrew and John.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Cupar and District Nursing Home for their care, kindness and attention to Velma over the last several years. We are so grateful.

A private family interment will be held.
