Obituary of Gabriel Roy Metz

Gabe was the oldest child of Paul Metz and Anna Mary Eberle. He was born on December 5, 1926 at home on the farm, 7 miles SE of Vibank. He completed grade ten at a one-room country school with up to 40 students and took his grade eleven by correspondence. He farmed NW of Vibank while working in Regina during the winter; and later in life, he worked as a driver instructor in Regina for many years.

Gabe married Barbara Braun in 1969, she passed away in 1985. He then married Marian Cox in 1987 and she passed away in 2010. Gabe was also predeceased by his sister, Theresa who passed in 2004. He is survived by his sister Marie and her husband, Bob. Gabe was always very close to his nephews and nieces: Gerald and Debbie Ooms; Duane and Karen Ooms (Wyatt, Grayson, Dylan); Brenda and Steve Rozycki (Ryland, Sam); and Michelle and Chris Anderson (Makayla, Tessa). He rarely missed a birthday celebration, holiday or special family occasion.

Gabe loved to talk to people, often striking up conversations with complete strangers. He took part in many of the activities at Queen Victoria Estates and often led the Catholic church services there. Gabe had a very strong faith and was very active in various Catholic churches. He volunteered at the Marian Centre, the General Hospital and Meals on Wheels. Gabe was always helping others.

Gabe passed away with family at his side, on October 29, 2021 in the Regina General Hospital. The family wishes to thank all those in 5E who provided him with such supportive care in his last weeks.

A celebration of Gabe’s life will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Friday, November 5, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Donations in Gabe’s memory may be made to the Marian Centre, 1835 Halifax Street, Regina, SK S4P 1T4.
