Obituary of Valerie Fracchia

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Valeria “Valerie” Fracchia on November 6, 2021, at the age of 91.  Valerie was born on May 10, 1930 in Frassinoro, Italy.  She was predeceased by her loving husband Franco (Frank); parents Agostino and Claudia Pieracci; brother Carlo Pieracci; sisters Dinda Burchi and Lia Boroli; brothers-in-law Raul Burchi, Tony Tazzioli and Gino Boroli; and nephew Roy Tazzioli.  Valerie will be lovingly remembered by her sons Mark (Donna) and David (Margie); grandchildren Michelle (Richard) West, Erin (Daniel) Berezniak, Christian (Persephone) Fracchia and Courtney Fracchia; great grandchildren Carter, Spencer, Lukas and Emily; sister Dina Tazzioli; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family in Regina and Italy.

Valerie and Frank immigrated to Canada in 1962 and settled in Regina, where they made a home and raised their family.  Valerie worked for nearly 30 years at Regina General Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide and later as an Operating Room Technician, before her retirement in 1992.  In January, 1993, she was heartbroken when Frank, her devoted husband of 41 years, passed away.  Her strength, perseverance and optimism helped her to move forward and to continue to cherish the things she loved most in life: her grandchildren and later her great-grandchildren.  Valerie enjoyed cooking and her lasagnas, gnocchi and tortellini were savoured by family and friends.  She and Frank also shared many fond memories of trips to her native Italy and Hawaii.  Most of all, she loved to help people in any way she could, in the most selfless manner.  Valerie was everyone’s “angel” and now she is an angel in heaven.

The family would like to thank the management and staff at Queen Victoria Estates, Life Force Home Health Care and, most recently, Diamond House Personal Care Home (Warman) for their kindness and care.

A Visitation will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK, on Thursday, November 18, 2021, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Funeral Mass will be held at Little Flower R.C. Church, 420 College Avenue, Regina, SK, on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 1:00 p.m., with interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate a donation in Valerie’s name to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan (https://alzheimer.ca/sk/en/about-us/alzheimer-society-saskatchewan).
