What an amazing obituary of Ron's life. I met Ron in 1966 when I moved to Churchill to be with my first husband. We enjoyed so many good times and laughs over the two years I lived there - one of the best being Ron and 4 others dressing up as women and crashing my bridal shower. Because my Dad couldn't attend the wedding, Ron kindly agreed to walk me down the aisle. He cherished the fact that one night on his radio broadcast he announced his friends were having a baby in 7 months, 2 weeks, 5 days - so I checked the calendar - June 5th - I told him he was so wrong as my due date was May 20th. Yep you guessed it our baby arrived on June 5th and Ron never let me forget that. Ron could also lay claim to "discovering" Peter Mansbridge.
After we left Churchill, we stayed in touch and even visited over the years. Ron unfailingly called me every Christmas - I so missed his call this year and know every Christmas I will miss that call. All of us who were lucky to know Ron were truly blessed by such a kind and wonderful man. My love to Jean, Kim, Michael, Graham and their families.

Our hearts go out to you Jean and family. We loved Ron's spirit and sense of humour. Our trip through the Panama Canal with you two was amazing - so many wonderful evenings together. Jay and I are sending you peace and love, and keeping you close in our thoughts. Love Kellie & Jay

Sending our thoughts and prayers to Jean, Graham and Raelyn. Ron was a great friend and we will really miss him. We will cherish the times we spent together. We enjoyed numerous shows at Casino Regina or the Connexus Arts Centre where we always had the best seats in the house thanks to Ron and his willingness to stand in line, sometimes for hours. Ron was a great storyteller. We particularly enjoyed his stories about the time he spent in the north. We will remember and miss his sense of humour and welcoming smile. He will always be in our hearts. All our love. Pat and Jacquie Gibney.

I worked with Ron when we both worked for CBC Calgary. We put together a team and entered a few Newsman's Bonspiels. Lots of laughs together. Not a great curler, but a hell of a good guy.
