Obituary of Grace Margaret Backman

It is with deep sadness we announce that Grace Margaret Backman, late of Regina SK, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 years on December 22, 2021. Grace was born on May 1, 1933 in North Battleford to parents John and Grace Horne. The family relocated to Beatty where Grace was raised with her two older brothers (Bob and Don) and two younger sisters (Sheila and Nell). It was in Beatty that she met her husband, Clarence. Grace and Clarence mainly made their life in Regina but did briefly live in Saskatoon and Enderby, BC. They were blessed with four children (Brian, Brenda, Doug and Darcy) and two grandsons (Alex and Kaius). Grace worked at many jobs but competed her work life as a CSR technician at the Plains Hospital.

She was a kind and gentle woman whose family was the centre of her life.  Grace’s children and grandchildren were important to her and she enjoyed spending time with them.  Her presence in their lives will be greatly missed.

Grace was predeceased by her parents, John and Grace Horne; husband Clarence; son Doug; sister Sheila; brothers-in-law Martin and Alis; sister-in-law Florence; mother and father-in-law, Evelyn and Ivor Backman; and sisters-in-law Marlene, Darlene and Irene.

Grace will be sadly missed by her son Brian; daughter Brenda (Derrick); son Darcy (Sandy); grandsons, Alex and Kaius; brothers, Bob and Don (Shirley); sister Nell; special niece Bev (Archie); numerous nieces and nephews; and her “family” at the Golden Heart Care Home where she lived the last years of her life. The family would like to thank Cyndy and Maryam and their staff for the care and compassion they provided during her time there.

Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK, on Monday, January 3, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined.  Donations may be made to the Hospitals of Regina, 1874 Scarth Street, Regina, SK S4P 4B3.
