It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our ever-loving Husband, Father, Grandfather (Poppi), brother and friend, Barry Fry. Barry passed away beautifully and peacefully with his family by his side on Friday December 24, 2021, at the young age of 71. He was predeceased by his parents August and Alma Fry; his in-laws Kevin and Fern Mulvihill; his older brother Bill Fry and sister-in-law Teresa Mulvihill.

Barry was born on June 18, 1950, the second of three children, in Regina Saskatchewan where he was raised along with his siblings Bill (Darlene) and Gail (Mike). It is here where Barry met and married the love of his life, Patti in 1976. Together they established a loving home and raised two beautiful children. Married for over 45 years, he loved Patti so deeply and rarely left her side. Barry was first and foremost a family man. Everything he did, he did for his family. He was most proud of his children and grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to talk about them or most importantly to tell them how deeply he loved them.

He had an enthusiasm and gratitude for life that came across in all he did, and everyone he spoke to. He was incredibly smart, had a deep intellect, enjoyed good conversation and always had time for a good laugh. He was a warm listener, beyond generous and at all times accepting. Always soft spoken, he was never short on words and was ever eager to offer advice and lend his own life experiences.

Barry had a deep passion for the arts and music. As a youth he learned percussion with the Regina Police Boys Junior Band and continued to play the drums in his music room to his favorite artists until he fell ill.  His incredible talent for crafting stained glass windows and lamps served him through his whole life and his pieces will be forever cherished by his family. In recent years, Barry also took up wood working, building lamp bases and furniture.  He found great joy in creating his masterpieces, and even greater joy in gifting those pieces to the people he loved most. His legacy can be seen in the many stained-glass windows he created in churches all over the province.

Barry loved the sun and being outdoors. Even in the dead of a Saskatchewan winter he never missed an opportunity to look up at the sky and catch a few rays. In the summer, Barry could always be found spending time at the beach or by the pool. It was truly the simple things in life that brought him the greatest pleasures, he enjoyed fishing, walking around Wascana Park, bike riding, reading, and being with his pets. He loved Hawkins cheezies, KitKats and peanut M&Ms and rarely missed an evening in front of the TV without a big bowl of popcorn. He loved geography, geology and National Geographic and was a dedicated subscriber for over 40 years. He loved watching nature and travel programs and was a whiz at trivial pursuit which often served him well in answering the many questions of his ever-curious grandchildren.

Barry never shied away from emotion and wore his heart on his sleeve. He was sharp, had a quick wit, a great sense of humor and deeply valued all his friendships and his faith. One of dad’s favorite quotes was from The Beatles: “and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.”  In the end, Dad made a lot of love, with all those around him and he will take with him all our love and be so deeply missed.

Treasured memories of Barry will be kept by his loving wife and soul mate Patti; his daughter Krissy (Tommy); son Matthew (Laura); his cherished grandchildren (“the guys”) David and Lydia; as well as his much-adored extended family and his many lifelong friends.

The family wishes to send a heartfelt thank you to the Pasqua Hospital MSU and ICU care teams for their compassionate and loving care for Barry in his final days as well as a special thank you to the care team at the Regina General Hospital CCU unit.
