It is with heavy hearts our family shares news of the peaceful passing of Michele Myrah on Tuesday December 28, 2021. Michele leaves behind her loving husband and best friend of 36 years, John, and their three children Ainslie (Marc), Scott (Kelly), and Kelsie (Adam); her brother and good friend Jim, his daughter Courtney (Tom); her dear cousins Noële Hall and Roberta Robertson; John’s mother Elaine Myrah; sister Loanne (Al); brothers Gord (Michele; Matthew and Rachel), Earl and Lloyd. Michele was predeceased by her mother and father, Micheline and Ainsley Nicol, and John’s father Wesley Myrah.

Michele graduated as a registered nurse from Kelsey Institute in Saskatoon in 1979. She pursued her nursing career at the Plains and General hospitals in Regina, and at the Foothills and Alberta Children’s hospitals in Calgary. Michele truly enjoyed caring for others, which was reflected through her passion for nursing and patient care. In particular pediatrics and critical care have always held a special place in Michele’s heart. She spent the majority of her later career in critical care, not only as a bedside nurse, but as an educator and then manager of the Medical Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Michele loved to travel, which extended to many family holidays over the years. The cabin at Katepwa was Michele’s favorite place to be; a place to relax and host family and friends who she always welcomed with a “more the merrier” philosophy.  Michele enjoyed planting and tending her plants at the lake, playing cards and dice, and sipping a glass of Pinot (or two) while on the deck watching the sunset.

Michele loved her kitchen, which was a gathering place for family and friends.  The “more the merrier” applied in the city as well, where Michele enjoyed cooking for and hosting large holiday gatherings and Sunday dinners.  Many long days were spent making apple pies near the end of summer, perogies and salsa in the fall, and all kinds of treats during the Christmas season. Her famous chocolate chip cookies and carrot cakes were enjoyed year-round by family, friends and coworkers alike. Her baking and cooking were an extension of her loving and caring spirit.

Our family extends a most sincere thank you to Dr. Mirjana Zarkovic (Michele’s  “warm blanket” during her cancer journey) for caring for Michele over the past few years, as well as the staff at Allen Blair Cancer Clinic. We extend a most special thank you to the Palliative Care Team at the Pasqua Hospital for their care and compassion provided to Michele and our family over the past month.
