Leon Benz and Leigh Padbury. Earth has lost an angel and heaven has gained one. I fondly remember the many awesome visits we enjoyed together at the Odessa Hotel, with a view from the rooms overlooking the pool. (elevator, Uncle George humour) lol. Our condolences to everyone. P.S. Excellent job of the beautiful eulogy Georgie

Auntie Lauretta was a gracious, beautiful, hardworking, kind loving woman. As a child, my parents Clair & Rosalind Shank would take us to Sask to visit Mom’s baby sister and her family and to meet all the cousins. I have very fond memories of Auntie Lauretta and Uncle George, as well as the Odessa Hotel, collecting bottles for penny candy, watching my cousins barrel race and laugh, and share delicious family meals with lots of fun and love.
My sincere condolences on your earthly loss. May all your happy memories be a warm blanket of comfort. Most definitely, Auntie Lauretta is reunited with the love of her life, her Georgie.
Love, Calla Shank-Hogue Halifax NS

On behalf of Joan and myself, we wish to express our condolences to the entire Kress Family. Growing up in rural Saskatchewan and attending school at Odessa, I grew up with the kids and got to know George and Lauretta as a result of the many school functions, sports days, figure skating contests, parades with the horses, and on and on. Upon graduation and becoming, of age, my memories increased due to the time I spend at the hotel, either having one of the best burgers anywhere and of course, the odd, cold one. Hardly ever travelling alone as my father and his brother were usually at the table listening to George tell the story of the week and Lauretta, busy in the kitchen or standing beside George while he entertained everyone in the place, was the calming influence. After we were married I brought my bride to the hotel and she became friends as well.
Great times and the world has just lost another great person. However, knowing that she will now be with George, I am sure that there are a few more stars that will be shining brighter every night.

To Linda, Diane, Glenn, George and families. Aunt Lauretta left a remarkable legacy, she was warm hearted, generous and talented. Visiting her and Uncle George either at the farm in Kendal or the hotel in Odessa, we were always greeted with a smiling welcome, wonderful food and great fun. She was a cheerful, fun loving and loving woman that always made you feel special. Though the years have separated us, we will always cherish our time with her. We were so pleased to meet her again, at our mother’s celebration of life, Emma Barrie nee (Benz) in April 2017.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time, we are going to miss her. Her memory will be cherished.

Oh Theresa, thank you so much for letting me know!
Your mom was a great lady who seemed indefatigable to me. She ran the hotel, raised the family, contributed to her community,- and never broke stride. Am I allowed to tell you now, that Lauretta was Rose's favourite sister? My mother used to talk about how she and Lauretta shingled the roof single-handedly when 'the boys' were off to war; put this in perspective, in 1945 Rose could not have been older than 14, and Loretta could not have been older than 13! The memories I have of your mother, are that even as she got older, she picked her spots and continued to be engaged with her family, her friends and her social interests. A bright mind, her views on politics could be insightful, sometimes cutting and often funny, as she had a candid and clear view of the foibles of human nature. The world has lost a great lady, but her legacy lives on. Hugs, Roxanne Shank,[oldest daughter of Rose Benz Shank]

Dear Jessa (always Linda to me) Diana, Glenn, George and families,
we send our heart felt sympathy to all with the passing of your Mom, Grandmother and great-Grandmother into eternal care of our Lord, whom she walked so faithfully with throughout her life..
What a legacy she has left in all of you!
I remember having to clean up the Bar Sunday mornings after church and lunch - BEFORE we could go riding horses or attend gymkhanas somewhere; a lesson well learned -- work before play!
