Demetra Pappas (nee Yianniba), late of Regina, SK, passed away peacefully Monday, January 17,2022 at the age of 98 years. She was predeceased by parents Athanasios and Maria; husband Sam; brothers Vasilios and Grigorios: and sisters Panagiota and Angeliki. Demetra is survived by her two loving sons Ernie and Tom and many nieces and nephews that made her life so happy.

Born in the Peloponnesian village of Kaltezia Greece, she began her life’s adventure early, working as a domestic in Athens at a young age. She worked hard, she saved, and in 1951 immigrated to Saskatoon, SK, Canada to live with her uncle.  Two years later she met her future husband Sam, later they married and set up residence in Regina. She and Sam raised their two beloved sons Ernie and Tom sharing many happy years together that often included much hard work. Demetra was the first in her large extended family to come over, she sponsored the immigration of her sister Angeliki and her husband Peter along with several nieces and nephews.

Demetra was a great mother and friend to all who were lucky enough to know her.  She was dedicated to her family, her church, her community, her loved ones. She was a great cook, the matriarch of the family, bringing family together in her home where suppers were always delicious, anyone that entered her home felt welcomed, cherished and appreciated.  You left knowing you were in the presence of someone very special. It was not uncommon to feel like an adopted kid in her home, no matter your age. She combined compassion with logic, and endeared those of us who sought her advice, or comfort, and found her overflowing with both. She will be dearly missed but not forgotten.

Prayers will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Friday, January 21, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church, 3000 Argyle Road, Regina, SK on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev.
