Soheil “Sam” Afnani

August 9, 1953 – January 25th, 2022

While we mourn the untimely and unexpected passing of Mr. Soheil Afnani, we take consolation in the fact that angels are awaiting him on the other side.  Born into a Bahai family in Iran, he immigrated to the United States and pursued his studies at University of Texas San Antonio. He personified the Bahai sacred writing: “The essence of faith is fewness of words and abundance of deeds”.  His selfless love for his wife, his unconditional love for his children and his grandchildren, his hard work ethic, timeliness, humility, and inability to point out negative features of other human beings were manifestations of his faith.  In any gathering, Soheil, or Sam as he was affectionately known, would often be found quietly in the background helping a grandchild, washing the dishes, or fixing something broken.

Sam, you were taken too soon.  We thank you for teaching us true faith, for showing us unconditional love, and for being an example of an excellent father, grandfather, and husband.  Sam is survived by his wife Mrs. Iran Mahboobi; daughters Sarah Vrigirina Afnani, Tara Tahereh Afnani, and Sanaz Dehghani; and grandchildren Bayan Dehghani, Aryan Dehghani, Milan Dehghani, Nadia Dehghani and Ezra Sebastián Ortega.
