Elva Sabo

Obituary of Elva Helen Sabo

Elva passed away peacefully at home with her family at her side. Predeceased by her husband Frank Sabo, she is survived by her three children, Ken (Pat), Kathryn (Randall), and Karen (Anton); five grandchildren, Jessica, Mark, Zachary, Simon and Amelia; her brother, Lorne Luedtke; and nephews Robin and Galen.

She was born in Alameda SK and grew up on the family farm near Wordsworth SK. Following graduation from high school in Alameda, Elva moved to Regina and attended Balfour Technical School. In 1950, she married Frank at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wordsworth. They raised their family in Regina. As a full-time mother and full-time office administrator, first at Clear and May and then for many years at SunLife, Elva was an early example of how to successfully balance family and career.

In 1948, Elva joined Beta Sigma Phi and remained an active member for the 74 years that followed – a remarkable milestone. Her sorority sisters were an important part of her large circle of friends.

Elva had a full and active life. Raising 3 children, she enjoyed time at the cottage at Pasqua Lake in the early years of the family and then time at the fly-in cabin in northern Saskatchewan. She was known for her consistent luck in catching the first, the most and the biggest fish. Family vacations in the US were always an adventure. Following her retirement in 1993 from SunLife, Elva was able to enjoy her love of travel to a greater extent. Ladies’ road trips in Canada and to Vienna, Scotland, Italy, England, Paris and Hawaii were adventures full of love and laughter.

Elva will be remembered by family and friends as a strong, independent and loving person. She will be missed.

The family would like to express special thanks to the RQHR palliative care team for their compassion and kindness in Elva’s final days.

A private family service will take place.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
